MMSI TELECOM BOAT RADIO LICENSE – VALID WORLDWIDE

As you are probably aware, it is mandatory by law to have a MMSI - radio license onboard your vessel at all times if you are travelling outside of the United States territorial waters.

The MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) is a unique, nine digit number, that is assigned to a DSC radio (Digital Selective Calling) or an AIS unit. Just like a mobile number, a MMSI number is your unique number for a DSC radio or an AIS unit. The information provided when obtaining a MMSI number is registered into the U.S. Coast Guard's national distress database for use in emergency situations.

Who needs a MMSI – Radio license?

Many boaters that have a vessel under the USA flag are confused about the exact rules for having a MMSI – boat radio license. It all depends on where you will be using your vessel and if you use your vessel for private or commercial use. If you do not plan to leave the US domestic waters, you can apply for a simplified domestic use MMSI, which can be obtained for a small fee and BOATUS even issues it for free for its members.

However, if you use your vessel in international waters (even a trip to the Bahamas or Canada) or for commercial use, you will need an international MMSI license. In order to obtain a worldwide valid, MMSI license you have 2 options:

License is issued by the United States – Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Coast Guard

This license is valid around the world and is issued by the Federal Commission of Communication (FCC) and the US coast Guard. We can obtain the license for you within 48 hours. The USA - MMSI license is valid for 10 years and can be obtained thru us for a fee of 349 USD.

License issued by United Kingdom - Telecom Authorities

We can also offer you a worldwide MMSI issued by the UK Telecom authorities. This official radio license will be valid to use with a VHF, AIS, and EPIRB on your boat AND IT DOES NOT MATTER UNDER WHICH FLAG YOU ARE CURRENTLY REGISTERED. This license will be valid for 10 years and the fee is 199 USD. If you obtain your MMSI license together with a boat Registration thru us, our fee is only 169 USD.

What do we need to register your MMSI - boat radio license?

All we need, to get you a valid MMSI radio license is your personal details and some details of your boat. It should take only 5 minutes to fill in our form.

How long does it take to receive my boat radio license?

Your MMSI radio license is issued as an electronic document and will be sent to you within 24 hours (UK – MMSI) or 48 hours (US MMSI) after you ordered. You will receive it by email and need to print it out and keep on board.

Is the UK issued MMSI valid for any boat and any flag?

Yes, the Radio package MMSI license is valid for any vessel registered under any flag and worldwide.

How long is the MMSI radio license package valid?

Both the US and UK MMSI radio license packages are valid for 10 years so no more yearly renewals.

In which countries is the MMSI radio package license valid?

Both the MMSI radio license packages that we offer are valid around the world with no restrictions.

Boat Registration Guide - Where To Register You Boat

The first thing to understand is that under which flag you sail has nothing to do with your nationality! Most registrations we offer are available to any nationality. In some cases, we need to put the ownership of your vessel in a new dormant company (that you own) in order to comply with the rules but this is only an advantage, as this company ownership also offers you liability protection as well as other advantages.

The Polish flag is probably our best value flag as the registration process is simple, inexpensive & fast. There are no surveys to be done, if your vessel is under 24 meters. The best part is; you get the registration for life, so no more renewals! Since Poland is a full European Union member, this flag document is accepted anywhere in the world and comes in 4 languages. We can get your provisional registration in 2 days and it is valid immediately. We take care of the whole process for you and translate all your current boat papers into Polish, as part of our fee.
